Nerissa Caballes, PharmD, MS, CRC

Nerissa is the Assistant Director of Medicaid Programs – Academic Detailing. She is a clinical pharmacist and clinical instructor with the Medication Review and Academic Detailing department at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). She graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy (2012) and Bachelor of Arts, Distinction in Psychology (1999) from UIC, and a Master of Science, Specialization in Psychiatric Rehabilitation Counseling, from Boston University (2001). She worked with refugees and trauma survivors as a rehabilitation specialist and education coordinator at Boston Medical Center. She has extensive experience as an emergency services clinical coordinator/supervisor and a staff pharmacist at Chicago area psychiatric hospitals. Nerissa has worked in managed care since 2012. She served as a consultant for several mental health projects, supervised and developed the student precepting program, and helped coordinate academic detailing studies on opioids and naloxone. She trained with experts at NaRCAD to enhance her skills as an academic detailer and continues to engage with detailers across the globe. She has been the clinical content co-manager for Illinois ADVANCE. Nerissa’s primary interests are psychiatric pharmacy, mental health, and collaborating with prescribers to yield effective prescribing practices and patient education.
